MindNode: Best Mindmapping Tool for OS X

Throughout the past two days, I’ve been trying to force myself to use a mindmapping tool, which I’d tried previously with terrible results. The main problem has been that utilities in this category are cumbersome, ugly, or both. For something designed to produce an image that appeals to visual thinkers (which I don’t necessarily count myself among, but you know. Whatever.), these products were failing. Hard.
Along comes MindNode. Here’s a lightweight, free, beautiful application that is so easy to use I felt as though I was missing something important. My sole complaint is the inability to cross-attach “nodes”, but other than that–perfection.

I wouldn’t call Tinderbox, iMindmap or Xmind ugly but I don’t know if not being free rules them out. If you go to the browser-based (and therefore cross-platform) ones, bubbl.us is free, simple and attractive, and it lets you cross attach nodes.
I agree that this is one of the most sorely-missed features of mind mapping software, because their designers mostly worship tree hierarchy a la Buzzan. You need to go to concept map software for freedom to connect anywhere to anywhere.
